Mission
TIMKATEC (Timoun Kap Teke Chans) is an organization with non-profit goal open to the children and to the young people of street. It is created the 4 October 1994, by the Reverend Father Joseph Macéus Simon, priest Salesian Don Bosco in Haiti. TIMKATEC is situated in the commune of Pétion-Ville and has invested itself with a humanitarian mission. It works since April 1996 under the status of local NGO and its actions are conducted in favor of the children of street of male sex especially and those (masc./fem.) issued from the disadvantaged milieu living in family are also admitted there. The field of action of TIMKATEC comprises all the activities capable of liberating the children from the problems to which they are exposed, be it of personal, familial or social order.
Currently the work has three sites and realizes programs of:
• Educational action for the children issued from the socially disadvantaged neighborhoods
• Taking in charge (boarding) of the children of the street
• Literacy training and professionalization of the vulnerable children and youth of both sexes.
• Social reintegration of the children
• Awareness-raising and of advocacy
In Haiti, many children are neglected or abandoned in the street to their own fates. In April 2011, UNICEF in Haiti had listed more than 3000 children of street solely in the metropolitan zone. According to the Haitian ministry of public health and of the population, nearly 87% of children, between 5 and 17 years, had already worked in 2011, of which 250,000 in situation of domesticity. The pauperization increases more and more. The purchasing power of households withers. Many children are in the obligation to seek themselves the daily bread and even to feed their families. This violates the right of the child to live in family and his/its right to equality. Furthermore, the Declaration of the Rights of the Child adopted in 1959 by the General Assembly of the United Nations establishes ten principles among which the right to free education and to recreational activities, the right to a protection against any form of cruelty, of negligence and of exploitation, the right to a food, a housing and to appropriate medical care and the right to priority relief in all circumstances. The child in the street, delivered to himself does not enjoy of these rights.
It is to mitigate or even resolve this problem that Timkatec saw the day. The center offers to the children/youth the opportunity to find a home, meals of quality, medical care, a basic education focused on religious, moral, civic values and a technical learning addressed to the youth, in a word everything that will permit the children and youth to succeed in life. Timkatec, despite the situation more and more difficult that the country experiences with the assault without cease of the armed gangs which occupy nearly 80% of the capital of Haiti continues to feed and educate more than 500 persons among the poorest as has always wanted Father Simon of late memory. At Timkatec, life bubbles despite the highs and the lows. Between school atmosphere, learning of trades, ecclesiastical and cultural activities, the youth of the Center are fulfilled and channeled to become good Christians and honest citizens.

Welcome to the third location of the Timkatec Center, Timkatec 3 (called Tim 3), where a wide range of quality training in manual trades is provided. Learners can choose between: sewing, electrical work, building construction, plumbing, IT/computing, cosmetology, cooking, tiling, and Windows skills/technique.
